Dementia Memory Groups

We operate memory groups for people living with early to mid stages of dementia. The impact of our memory groups is that people can live longer where they call home, for longer. There are five principles of our groups to remember:

1. WEEKLY

2. 5 HOUR SESSIONS

3. DOOR 2 DOOR TRANSPORT

4. 2 COURSE MEAL INCLUDED

5. MONTHLY TRIP

The groups are very flexible to meet carer needs; some carers join the groups for the first session, whilst other hang around into the second month - it is no problem for us, and the needs of the members are paramount in considering carer company in groups.

Due to the decade long success of the Kirkburton dementia group, which has operated at between eight and sixteen members for a number of years, the charity was approached to open new similar services across #Kirklees, filling a gap in provision for people living with early to mid stage #dementia.

In 2018, the @DenbyDaleCentre has opened six new dementia groups across Kirklees in the following areas (in addition to #Kirkburton):

All of our dementia groups work closely with #volunteers and also #placements (from the Job Centre and from @KirkleesCollege).

ALL staff are safeguard checked (volunteers, placements and employed) in line with our safeguarding policy. Further information about the groups can be found at www.ddc.org.uk/dementia
