Farewell to our Chief Officer

It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to Paul Jones MBE, our outgoing Chief Officer, and wish him well with his new post up in the North East, where he re-joins his family.

Paul, saying goodbye to Kirklees

Paul has been in post in our organisation for the past ten years, leading us through Brexit, Covid, Cost of Living Crisis and under his custody, we survived really hard times, and even avoided closure. In his time, he has exposed us to national repute representing rural Yorkshire at Westminster Round-Tables and hosted Ministerial Visits to HD8.

He has brought us great repute from Kirklees Council, Integrated Care Board and the local Primary Care Network through positive services to people in HD8 and across Kirklees, notably the Covid Vaccination Transport Service and the Ukraine Family Transport Service which lead on to Refugee Transport.

Paul has also brought us national recognition in awards, Highly Commended Charity of the Year 2021, and has received his MBE and locally was made a Paul Harris Fellow of the International Rotary Club; we are very proud and thankful, as others are too, for his presence, advocacy and dedication to rural life in HD8.

New services brought into HD8, by Paul and what Paul has supported, include the HD8 Community Pantry, HD8 Community Anchor, HD8 Champions, Indoor Kurling, Covid-19 Community Response, Step Challenge, Rural Veterans Hubs, Volunteer Car Service, the Lunch Club, and more - you can discover these activities he brought to us in the photos at the end of this report.

Paul has made really huge positive steps in developing the people around him, sharing knowledge and shaping the future for us all. His new role is running Churches Together South Tyneside, who have similar vision and values to the Denby Dale Centre, also being an anti-loneliness and improving quality of life charity; making a difference to local people.

We wish him well in his new post and know his new organisation will thrive under his leadership around South Tyneside.

The Denby Dale Centre has seconded a temporary Operations Manager to continue the leadership of the charity, and we are delighted to announce that Charlei Rees will act in our organisation’s senior role until we complete a restructure and recruitment which may take up to twelve months.

We thank both Paul and Charlei for their dedication to service and wish them both well in their new roles.
